The problem with getting a promotion is that it’s a human experience. It’s not a spiritual mountaintop where you achieve enlightenment and connection to the cosmos. So if you’re expecting that, expect disappointment. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing. Your promotion will increase your agency in this world and open doors that need to be opened, and that is vital to everything we’re trying to do here. But it’s important to detach meaning from the promotion. That way, you won’t be swayed if you get one or you don’t. Your head won’t be turned. And you can keep moving on the path towards greater leadership because you know your worth.
