Women often undercharge in the workplace. Most don’t negotiate at all. Some may negotiate but undervalue themselves. Women are less comfortable negotiating in the first place, and when we do, we’re less likely than men to get what we want. You could see this as discouraging or motivating. As women, we need to normalize asking for more. So next time you’re in a salary negotiation for a new job or a promotion, assume what you’re asking for is low, and add 25 percent.
