Mentors can be great. Don’t get me wrong. But having five allies is a more powerful move than having one mentor. Having more allies increases your visibility in the organization and takes the pressure of that one all-important mentorship relationship. (In truth, you can think of your mentor as just a fancy ally.) It doesn’t have to be an either/or situation, either. You can have a mentor and still be gathering allies. Those allies are your power base. And when you continue with those 15-Minute Ally Meetings, you make that base bigger and stronger.
If you’re not sure what 15-Minute Ally Meetings are or the best way to use them, listen to episode 37 of my podcast, How to Build Trust at Work Using 15-Minute Ally Meetings.
