The weird truth is that you’re more likely to get promoted if you go for a job title that’s a level or two beyond the one you were targeting. And the faster you can elevate your job title, the greater your momentum into the executive suite.
It’s also worth mentioning that the time it takes to go from vice president to senior vice president is a *lot* shorter than the time it takes to get from director to VP. Ask for that bigger job title now and you’ll get to the executive suite even faster.
