Executive leaders don’t get paid for their hard work. They get paid for their ideas. This is not to say executive leaders don’t work hard. They do. But hard work isn’t the point. Their vision and thought leadership is the point.
When you manage to exit the weeds even 5 percent, you free up that mental space to cultivate your own ideas. You can then bring those ideas to your boss and other allies. But bring it to them in small bite-sized pieces – at least at first. You can build from there.
