In one of my recent podcast interviews, the great authenticity coach Erin Hatzikostas talks about how you can forge your authentic leadership by playing a different game.
What does that mean? It means looking at the script for executive success and realizing that you don’t have to live by that script. Maybe you don’t have to work 80-hour workweeks. Maybe you don’t have to cop an attitude and start using nonsensical corporate language, even though that might feel good. Maybe you don’t have to drop everything and fly off to every corporate meeting just because that’s what you’ve seen other people do.
Mainly, it means you shouldn’t turn down opportunities just because you don’t want what that opportunity has looked like in the past. Maybe this time you can do things in a way that’s more authentic to you. What would that look like?
